The Tech Side of Civil Engineering Technology

June 11, 20261 min read

During my high school years, I have mostly engaged in drafting the old fashioned way. When I had an idea of how to design something, I did it with pencil and paper. In my early years of high school, this was done free-hand and by the time I was in 11th grade, I had mastered manual drafting with measurements. The tech side of Civil Engineering was introduced to me in my senior year of high school. My drafting teacher was an expert of computer-aided-design (CAD) and she have taught me how to navigate what was AutoCAD at the time. As the years have come and gone, CAD has envolved into an industry standard. Rarely, there are engineers who engage in manual drafting. However, it is necessary in some cases. Civil Engineering Technology has evolved as well, with many technicians utilizing the technology aspect through data collectors and electronic surveying equipment. Technology play a role in Civil Engineering that provides accurate results that society depends on. I believe that the Tech side of Civil engineering is so important that without it, the Civil Engineering industry would not be the same.
