Another branch of civil engineering technology is structural. This is my personal favorite, because it relates to my passion for architecture. This branch involves the design of buildings, bridges, and cell phone towers. I like this branch because it helps foster creativity and embrace the mathematics of design. Although similar to architecture, structural engineering is designing buildigns and structures from an angle of mathematics. The engineers in this branch utilize mathematical principles to assure that a building won't fall when subjected to different types of loads. For example, a 2 story house is expected to remain a 2 story house if any occupant decides to jump on the 2nd floor or run throughout the house. During the excitement, the house is expected to be in one piece. It is the work of a structural engineer that provides the assurance that the building will stand no matter what happens. Another reason why I like the structural branch of Civil Engineering Technology is that I love mathematical calculations. This is tied to technology as the mathematics serve as input into the various structural calculation software that civil engineers use. This technology play a significant role in helping create a design that withstands different loads.
